This comes after Ruhinda North MP Thomas Tayebwa raised the matter, saying that the soldiers’ welfare allowance has not been paid for the last eight months.

Teyebwa has also told the House, that the soldiers are living in a challenging time, with others resorting to stealing so as to survive.

The Minister of State for Veterans, Bright Rwamirama has confirmed the situation, but quickly added that several interventions are already being undertaken by government.

Government recently announced a phased withdrawal program from Somalia after the European Union cut its funding towards facilitation of the AMISOM troops.
