He says the engagement has to continue to so that all the sticking issues are resolved once and for all.

Kigundu tells KFM, that the academic staff is ready and available to start work since they already agreed to suspend the strike.

He has asked students to ensure they report to the campus by 2ndJanuary, the official reopening date to complete with the last semester which was cut short by the staff strike and subsequent closure of the institution.

Dr Kiggundu appeals to the students not to worry about the lost time since a compensation program has been drawn to cover it.

Yesterday, Makerere University Council Chairperson, Professor Charles Wana-Etyem confirmed 2nd January as the official re-opening date for Makerere University following a directive by President Yoweri Museveni to have the university opened as soon as possible.

Makerere University was closed on orders of the president on November 1st following a strike by MUASA over incentive allowance arrears amounting to shs.28bn.
