Makerere University Management is yet to decide the fate of the deputy academic registrar Margaret Etuusa who is alleged to have collected money from parents and students during the recent graduation ceremony without the knowledge of the university.
According to the letter from the University Secretary, Charles Barugahare dated February 28th addressed to the Academic Registrar Alfre Masikye, he was seeking information on whether the handling of phones and the company that collected money at the ceremony was discussed and approved by the ceremonies committee.
The academic registrar’s office wrote back yesterday indicating that indeed the handling of phones was discussed but not approved.
Speaking to KFM, Barugahare confirms that the deputy registrar breached the rules but her fate is to be decided by management.
Parents and students who had carried phones were required to pay between Shs3000 and 5000 for each phone to be kept by the company that was assigned since such gadget s were not allowed at the graduation venue.
