Delivering his speech at the 31st NRM anniversary celebrations in Masindi this afternoon, the president said he is a freedom fighter, fighting for himself.

He says those who think he is a servant of the Ugandans who voted him into power are misguided.

President Museveni has also underscored the need to reduce imports and increase exports.

He was resounding his renewed push for export promotion to reduce what he has often referred to as hemorrhage of money and jobs.

The president said importation of products which can be made in Uganda should be stopped immediately.

He reveals that government is to find a gazetted work area for artisans manufacturing products like furniture and support them with necessary tools.

Meanwhile, 175 medals have been awarded to various individuals.

The categories of medals included Nalubaale, Golden Jubilee, Luwero Triangle and Police medals.

The chairman of the Medal Awards Committee Gen Elly Tumwine says these were recognized for their various contributions to the struggle and country’s development.

Among those given Golden Jubilee medals are the chairman of Makerere University Council Dr. Charles Wana Etyem and Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Bernabas Nawangwe.
