The Uganda communications commission has announced that the ban on the use of airtime scratch cards across the country takes effect on 31st July 2018.
In March this year the commission issued a directive to all telecom companies to start using electronic airtime which can be accessed through mobile money and other platforms.
Speaking to KFM, the executive director of the commission Godfrey Mutabazi says it was agreed upon with telecom companies that the scratch airtime would be phased out gradually expressing optimism that they will be no more next month.
Mutaabazi says this has been done to protect the people in the wake of the current state of insecurity in the country.
