Local Council Elections for LC1 and 2 will have to wait much longer due to lack of funds according to electoral commission chairman Eng Badru Kiggundu.

Although the village leaders’ term of office ended over ten years ago, the electoral body says there is no money to organize for fresh polls.

The electoral commission last held LC 1 and LC 2 elections in 2001 but while appearing before parliament’s committee on legal and parliamentary affairs earlier today, Eng Kiggundu has reiterated lack of funds.

The Constitution of Uganda under Article 61(2) mandates the Electoral Commission to hold presidential, general, parliamentary and local government council elections within the first 30 days of the last 90 days before the expiration of the term of the President.
