The police has down played reports of rebel activities and growing insecurity in Kitgum district in northern Uganda’s Acholi sub-region.

Since last month, police Flying Squad has been camped in some strategic areas in Northern Uganda to net the assailants who had been terrorizing residents.

According to the police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kawesi, they have so far arrested 15 people in connection to various murders and three guns recovered, but none of the case is connected to any rebel activity.

He adds that because of the success registered so far, the operation have been spread further to various districts in Acholi sub-region.

This follows reports of recruitment of mercenaries in West Nile by rival factions in South Sudan’s war to bolster their sides.
