National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has issued a one-week ultimatum to the Ministry of Defence, Uganda Prisons Service and Mulago hospital to clear their arrears or they have their supply disconnected.

Dr. Silver Mugisha the managing director says they need that money to pay up the contractors, because they are laying pipes which have to be bought expensively yet a lot of money is locked up in unpaid bills.

Addressing journalists in Kampala on Tuesday, Dr. Mugisha said they had been assured by the permanent secretary in the ministry of finance that he had already paid the government agencies with express instructions for them to settle their accrued arrears.

Meanwhile, National Water and Sewerage Corporation has advised city residents to store enough water to take them to the weekend.

Dr. Mugisha says the corporation will again turn off water from the city to connect the new water system to the old network and storage tanks in Muyenga to improve water supply.

He added that last week the same was done but they had not communicated well to the public causing outcry.
