President Museveni has distanced himself from claims that he is always cracking down on anyone who comes out to oppose him.
Speaking out on the arrest of Rtd Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde, Museveni said the war general went overboard and that there is evidence.
Appearing on NBS TV, Museveni said those who are arrested while in the struggle to oppose him are those who hide under politics and mix it with subversion.
He presented examples of people like DP’s Paul Ssemwogerere, Betty Kamya, Abed Bwanika and UPC’s Miria Obote who have run for the presidency with him and were never arrested.
Tumukunde who is charged with treason and six counts of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition was yesterday granted bail by the High Court after spending six weeks on remand at Luzira Prison.
