A section of opposition members of parliament led by Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze are today expected to start collecting signatures from their fellow legislators to recall parliament over alleged abuse of Dr.Kiiza Besigye’s rights.
Dr. Besigye remains under preventive arrest by police at his home in Kasangati since his return from abroad about a month ago.
The law makers contend that the police actions are illegal and want parliament which is currently in recess to be recalled under Section 20 of the Rules of Procedure to handle this matter which they say is an abuse of the Constitution.
Rukunjiri municipality MP Roland Kaginda says they have so far received a promising number of legislators asking for the forms to append their signatures.
The rules require signatures of only one-third of the House to have members recalled from recess.
This means they need about 170 out of the 432Mps.
