President Museveni should use today’s state of the nation address to paint a clear picture of oil production and its associated revenue and how it will benefit the country.

According to Dickens Kamugisha, the Executive Director of the Centre for Energy Governance, the oil resource is one of Uganda’s best assets for generating substantial revenue that can help stem government borrowing.

In the budget framework paper for 2015/2016, the energy sector has been allocated over 2 Trillion shillings, but the bulk of this is expected to cover costs of electrification.

Kamugisha says the president should address the issue of high electricity costs and how access and affordability of electricity will be increased in Uganda.
