According to the Executive Secretary of Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Dan Odongo, over 640,000 pupils have been cleared for the national exam out of which, 51% are female and 48% are male.

Odongo adds that the board has deployed over 8,000 scouts across the country to minimize leakage and other forms of malpractice as has been witnessed with the UCE exams which are already underway.

He says they have also beefed up security and police officers will be escorting the papers to examination centers since some transporters temper with question papers.

As the Primary Leaving Examinations to kick off this morning, pupils have been urged to be confident and feed well before entering the examination rooms.

According to the principle exanimations officer, primary department at Uganda National Examinations Board Rose Nabukenya, the board has not set anything beyond the known syllabus.

She says pupils should therefore not panic but be confident and resist the temptation of cheating.

The candidates will take Mathematics in the morning and Social Studies in the afternoon and conclude tomorrow with Religious Education, Integrated Science and English language papers.
