The ministry of internal affairs has attributed the increased carnage on Uganda’s roads to lack of police patrols for surveillance of over speeding vehicles.
Addressing parliament yesterday the state minister for internal affairs Obiga Kania said motorists usually over speed in between the set check points and thus go undetected.
He said that many patrols trucks are now grounded due to lack of fuel, calling on parliament to consider increasing the police budget if patrolling highways is to be prioritized.
This comes as the country continues to mourn the over 22 people who perished in Friday’s grisly accident that involved a GAAGA bus and two trucks along the Kampala-Gulu Highway in Kiryandongo district.
