President Yoweri Museveni has cancelled the meeting that had earlier been scheduled with the striking medical doctors to forge a way forward.
Members of the Uganda Medical Association were expected to meet the president today at State House, Entebbe over the doctors’ strike which commenced on November 6th over poor pay and working conditions.
However according to Dr. Brian Kasagga the association spokesperson, they have received a notice from the president indicating that this meeting has been cancelled but no reason has been given.
Yesterday, while addressing a rally in Kabarole district, the president made it clear that he would not negotiate with striking doctors, threatening to fire them and hire new and willing ones.
The doctors are now set to brief media regarding their next course of action.
