The civil society has tasked the government to set realistic targets if it will be able to lift Ugandans out of poverty.

A recent poverty status report released by the Ministry of Finance showed that poverty is on a long-run decrease, having reduced from 56% in 1993 to 20.3% in 2021.

Government has since vested its hope in the Parish Development Model (PDM) as its key strategy to uplift millions from poverty.

However speaking to KFM, the executive director of Food Rights Alliance, Agnes Kirabo warned that unless Uganda clearly defines its value chain and involves more people in production, a particular class of Uganda will continue using poverty to selfishly enrich themselves.

She has also encouraged Ugandans not to give up on agriculture, saying it remains the biggest cash cow.
