The Speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga flagged off a group of women who will travel to a number of districts in the country as part of celebrations to mark 21 years of the women movement in Uganda.
The group was flagged off at 9am at the Uganda museum and will traverse the districts of kabale, Gulu, Kibuku, Napak, Mityana and Wakiso to preach messages of empowering women and encouraging more women to participate in the country’s political decision making.
The Executive Director of the Forum for Women in Democracy, Patricia Munabí says the tour is meant to empower women and communities to participate better in their governance, demand for gender responsive services, share learning innovations and best practices among others.
The Forum for women in democracy is a Civil Society organisation that was established in 1995 to offer a platform for Ugandan women to learn and advocate for gender equity in decision making.
