The police in Kampala have started investigating circumstances under which a woman died from the Nakivubo Channel as she allegedly fled from Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) law enforcement team.
The police spokesperson for Kampala metropolitan Emillian Kayima has indentified the woman as 38 year old Olivia Basemera a handkerchief vendor. He tells KFM that the mother of three was a resident of Mengo in Rubaga Division.
He says the police at Jinja Road Police Station have launched investigations, urging eye witnesses to come forward and provide the much needed information.
Earlier, angry commercial (boda-boda) cyclists and vendors stormed City Hall in Kampala, protesting what they called inhumane treatment by law enforcement officers.
The authority spokesperson Mr. Peter Kauju has told KFM that they have heard about the sad news but cannot comment on the matter until police investigations are complete.
