A general meeting between teacher and the government is slated for today at Bat valley theatre.

The meeting will discuss the standoff between teachers and the ministry of education over funding towards the Teachers Savings and Credit Cooperative Society.

The ministry and teachers are at loggerheads over the five-year 25 billion- shilling grant from the president meant for the teachers Saccos , which the ministry has refused to remitted directly to the Saccos.

The General Secretary Uganda National Teachers Union James Tweheyo says today’s meeting will lay grounds for the teacher’s general meeting on 8th January that will determine the way forward.

Meanwhile, a section of teachers transferred by the Ministry of Education from Makerere College School has described the move as victimization.

A total of 23 teachers were transferred from the schools and sources from the ministry indicate that the transfer was precipitated by the strike last year against their head teacher Agnes Ssebayigga.

One of the affected teachers Bernard Mudonyi says many of them have resolved to resign their teaching jobs.

Mudonyi says some of the teachers transferred from Makerere College are also lectures at Makerere University and will not honor the transfers.
