The Ministry of Health has confirmed 2 new COVID-19 cases bringing the total number to 83.
This is out of the 2,071 samples tested at the Uganda Virus Research Institute yesterday.
According to the director-general health services Dr Henry Mwebesa, the confirmed cases are both Kenyan male truck drivers aged 55 and 27, who arrived via Busia and Malaba respectively.
Out of the 2,071 samples tested, all 492 samples from the community tested negative for COVID-19.
The total number of recoveries is 52.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,248 contacts to the COVID-19 confirmed cases have been listed to date.
Of these, 1,440 completed the mandatory 14-day follow up while 808 contacts are being followed up by the team of surveillance officers.
Latest data shows that in East Africa, Tanzania leads the pack with 480 cases of Covid-19, Kenya follows in second place with 396, Rwanda 243, Uganda 83 and Burundi has only 11.
