The statistics body is mandated to conduct the national population census every after 10 years with the last one done in 2014.

UBOS Executive Director Chris Mukiza says they require Shs138.6bn to carry out the 2022 census of livestock and 2022 national population and housing census.

Mukiza explains that they have decided to have the census next year to enable the country to have up to date data for implementation of the National Development Plan III.

He says the census will be carried out between the last week of August and the first week of September.

Mukiza was appearing before parliament’s finance committee to present their 2019/2020 financial review.

According to the national statistics body Uganda currently has a population of nearly 45 million.
