The Government of Uganda is working towards reducing informal trade between Uganda and Sudan.
According to statistics from Uganda export promotions board, South Sudan is ranked second among major Uganda’s export destinations earning the country over 250 million dollars annually.
Speaking to KFM, the principal commercial officer in ministry of trade Francis Koluo says currently a lot of undocumented goods leave and enter South Sudan informally hence affecting export collection.
He explained that despite using drastic measures such as arrests to fight smuggling of goods at other border points, the vice continues.
He says they have now decided to introduce trade information desks at all border posts including at the Uganda South Sudan border to educate traders on the right procedures to be followed.
