The Uganda Law Society has condemned the infamous court order by Deputy Chief Justice Stephen Kavuma restraining parliament and any section of the public from holding debate or investigating the controversial Shs6bn cash bonanza.

A statement issued by the Uganda Law Society President Francis Gimara, blames Kavuma’s actions as a dangerous constitutional precedent with serious negative effect of legislative practice.

Gimara has also blamed parliament for glossing over reservations raised by the Judicial Service Commission over Justice Kavuma’s re-appointment as Deputy Chief Justice.

The law society has vowed to challenge the court order but cautions parliament and all decision makers to learn from this incident about the need to strengthen the vetting process for the appointment of judicial officers.
