UWONET Hands Peace Candle To NRM Candidate

The Uganda Women Network has handed a peace candle to the NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong.
According to UWONET Executive Director Rita Aciro, the candle is meant to symbolize the call for peace from all presidential candidates as the country prepares for the February elections.
The women argue that since each of the candidates has a huge number of supporters who believe in them, they are best placed to appeal for peace.
Receiving the candle at the NRM party headquarters at Kyadondo road, Todwong has pledged his party’s commitment to promoting a peaceful electoral process.
The women’s movement has set 8 peace candles to be handed to each of the candidates.
The first candidate to receive the peace candle was Maj. Gen Benon Biraaro of the Farmers’ Party.
