Shock has gripped police officers and suspects at Bukomansimbi police station after landing on the body of one of the suspects in the cells dead after committing suicide.

Deo Kasibante, a resident of Kyango Village, Bukomansimbi Town Council, in Bukomansimbi has been found dead in police cells after hanging self with the use of a bed sheet.

Kasibante had been arrested on Friday for chopping off a hand of his neighbor identified as Deus Matovu following a bitter argument between them over unknown reasons.

This angered his relatives reporting the matter to police that went to his home to pick him up but on searching his home surprisingly the police detectives landed on military and police uniforms plus police helmet.

Noah Serunjogi the Southern Region Police Spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying that Kasibante took the advantage of being alone in the cell to commit suicide.

He says that he had been arrested with two Uganda People’s Defense Forces(UPDF) uniforms , police uniform and pictures he had taken when clad in these uniforms.

Serunjogi has however, dismissed claims by a section of residents that have been accusing police of aiding the suspect to commit suicide wondering how he accessed a bed sheet he reportedly used to commit suicide.

Serunjogi says that the deceased’s body has been taken to hospital for postmortem as investigation into the matter goes on. This is the second case of a suspect committing suicide in a police cell in Masaka region.

Early this year another suspect committed suicide at Kinoni police post cell in Lwengo district.
