A mother of three in Wakisi central in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe district set herself on fire after accusing her husband of spying on her and also accusing her of sleeping around with different men.
Ms Racheal Nafula, 23, and a mother of three children was found at Wakisi health center with wounds all over her body and in a lot of pain. She revealed that they have always had misunderstandings with her husband, Mr Paul Balikuba and the only option she had, was to set herself on fire.
According to Ms Racheal Nafula, her husband has on several occasions accused her of sleeping with different men and this always caused fights between them.
“Every time, that man accuses me of sleeping around with men which I do not do, I was tired of his acts that is why I decided to burn myself,” Ms Racheal said.
Ms Racheal Nafula explained that she tied herself with a mattress and lit the fire on it after she had taken her children to their grandmother, but later, she felt pain forcing her to seek for help.
“I took my children to their grandmother, closed myself in the house, got the mattress that we sleep on, tied it around myself and I lit the fire. I later felt so much pain which forced me to call my neighbours who took me to the hospital,” she added.
Mr Paul Balikuba, 50, the husband got the information about his wife when he was at a funeral but he left home when the wife told him that she is opting for divorce.
“We enjoyed lunch together but later my wife told me she is divorcing me. I was forced to carry our youngest child and go at a funeral but I later got information that she had burnt herself. I do not know why she did that but I always provide everything for her even when the two children she had taken to her grandmother are not mine,” Mr Paul said.
Mr Hamidu Mulopi, the chairperson of Wakisi central said that the couple has for a long time had wrangles and he has always looked for the man to solve their problems.
“I have looked for Mr Paul for a long time but he is nowhere to be seen. The two have always had misunderstandings and I have always got the reports.” Mr Hamidu said.
Ms Racheal Nafula has been charged with attempted suicide at Wakisi police station under police case number 07/28/04/2020 and the investigations in the matter have commenced.
