The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has today launched the long -awaited change of particulars (COP) service in national identity cards across the country.
On May, 27th, NIRA rolled out the Nationwide ID enrolment and renewal exercise which is expected to run for 6-10 month.
Speaking the joint security weekly presser at the police headquarter in Naguru, Claire Ollama, the NIRA District Registrar- Buikwe, explained that, a fee of UGX 200,000 will be applied to all changes not caused by the authority.
She added that all the guidance is already available at the NIRA website.
“On the 21st day of July which is today I want to inform you country men dear citizens and people of Uganda that this service is available today across all the district offices , I want to be categorically clear that anybody seeking to renew their ID with amends will not do it at the parish will have to make it to nearest district office , I also need to be on record to make it clear to us dear country men, the only thing that can change about us is our name the rest of the things that refer to our bio data or what is known about you might have been errors however there are things we are not changing, ‘’ says Claire Ollama .
The authority is also set to register over 17m new applicants including Ugandans under the age of 17 and those who missed the previous registration rounds.
