The ruling National Resistance Movement has called its members of parliament for a special caucus meeting, on Thursday.

The Government chief whip, Thomas Tayebwa says he has been instructed by the President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday at Kololo ceremonial grounds.

According to Tayebwa, the caucus is meant to discuss the issue of the speaker.

“I have been instructed by H.E. Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda and National Chairman of the NRM Party to call a special caucus meeting on Thursday 24th March 2022 to discuss the issue of Speaker of Parliament,” he said.

President Museveni announced Oulanyah’s passing on his Twitter handle, saying the Speaker of Parliament died in Seatle, USA, where he had been on treatment since February.

“..I got information of this sad news at 10.30 am, East African time from people that have been with him and the doctor that was caring for him in the intensive care unit,” Mr. Museveni tweeted.

The cause of his death has not been publicly stated.
