Mengo Magistrates court is today expected to hear a case filed by the Kampala Central parliamentary candidate Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu seeking an order for a vote recount.

Nyanzi who was on the ticket of the National Unity Platform polled 15, 975 votes against the Independent candidate Muhammad Nsereko’s 16,998 votes.

In his petition,  Nyanzi states that the process and counting of the said votes were marred by a lot of malpractices and irregularities committed by both the Electoral Commission officials and Nsereko’s agents.

He accuses some of the presiding officers of denying his agents access to voting areas at different polling stations including Summit View, Nakasero 1 and 2, Hoima Flats among others.

As such, the declaration forms were never signed by his agents because they had been blocked from taking part in the counting and tallying process.

He also accuses Nsereko and his agents of alternating the declaration of result forms, destroying original copies of the forms, hiding their originals among others.
