Ongwen asks International Court to direct charges against him to oseph Kony.

David Kugonza | December 6, 2016

Former LRA Commander Dominic Ongwen has asked the International Court to direct the charges slapped against him to rebel leader Joseph Kony.

Speaking through an interpreter after prosecutors read out the charges to him, Ongwen said he did not understand them.

He added that the said that were directed at the LRA and its leader, which he is not.

The trial is underway at the Hague-based ICC before a panel of three judges led by Bertram Schmitt.

Ongwen, the first child soldier to be tried by the ICC was a boy when he was abducted and conscripted by the notoriously ruthless rebel cult.

He faces 70 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Uganda, more charges than any other suspect.
