Member of Parliament on legal committee have pinned the minister for constitutional affairs to justify the urgent need to pass electoral amendments yet they don’t directly impact on the coming elections.

According to the proposal, amendment was done in respect to the change of the name of the electoral commission and dismissal of electoral commissioners.

Members including Abdul Katuntu and Lubega Segona said that the proposal is below the country expectation, thus it doesn’t disserve any urgency.

While responding, the minister for constitutional affairs Kahinda Otafire said that many of the proposals were got from the stake holders’ proposal, though government had some input.

He explained that the proposed reforms will determine the credibility of the 216 elections.
