Over 150 Rwenzururu Royal guards charged with treason and remanded
Over 150 Rwenzururu Royal guards have been charged with treason and remanded to Kirinya and Bugungu Government Prisons until December 28th.
The suspects including 19 women and 4 juvenile were this morning arraigned before Jinja Chief Magistrate John Francis Kaggwa alongside their king Charles Wesley Mumbere who was charged with similar offences earlier.
The four juveniles have been sent to Naguru Remand Home.
According to the state, between March and November 2016, Mumbere together with 151 others plotted to overthrow the government of Uganda by using firearms.
The accused are said to have expressed such a plot by utterances and acts such as attacks on various police attachments, killing police officers, robbing firearms and ammunitions, recruiting and training individuals to join an armed rebel outfit plus attending meetings abroad and attempting to acquire firearms illegally.
Yesterday the state brought new charges of terrorism, aggravated robbery and attempted murder against the Omusiga and remanded him to Luzira prison where he was picked this morning and taken back to Jinja court to be charged afresh.
