The number of students slated to sit for the allied health examinations which kick off today has doubled due to Covid-19 backlog.

The Executive Secretary of the Uganda Allied Health Examination Board (UAHEB), Joseph Angodua said that a total of 20570 health workers will sit for today’s examinations from 215 examination centers.

The board has in the previous years been conducting examinations for 10,000 students, with the number doubling this academic year.

Angodua told journalists on Saturday during a briefing of the head of invigilators at their offices in Kyambogo that they are clearing the Covid-19 backlog and the numbers are expected to normalize next year.

According to Mr. Angodua, the increment in the number of students has called for extra resources to cater for an increment in the number of examiners, scouts, and invigilators to monitor the examinations.

A total of 1,860 have been recruited to monitor the examinations. These include scouts, examiners of practicals, invigilators, coordinators, and supervisors.

The UAHEB chairperson, Rose Nassali asked the examiners to be vigilant to ensure that examination materials are not tampered with.

According to her, the board has resolved to summon the invigilators to appear before the examination committee alongside students who will be caught cheating examinations to explain why they did not play their role well.
