Over 3600 children expected to be born in Uganda today

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has revealed that an estimated 3,636 babies will be born in Uganda today, 1st January.
This is a 7.3% decrease from 2020, when an estimated 3,900 were born the first day of the year.
Globally, over half of the babies born today are estimated to take place in 10 countries with the majority over 59,000 in India, 35,000 in China and over 8,000 in Congo among other countries.
Ugandan babies will account for 0.9% of the estimated 371,504 babies to be born on New Year’s Day.
The interim UNICEF Representative in Uganda Laura Fouché, says now is the time to begin the task of building a better world with the challenges of 2020 behind us and the opportunities of 2021 before us.
She says 2021 will be a critical year for children but pledges to help when need arises.
