The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has thrown out petition by a section of MPs seeking the recall of parliament from recess.
In a letter written to the petitioners, the Speaker outlines the reasons why she cannot recall parliament.
The reasons include among others the forgery of some signatures by the petitioners and the withdrawal of some signatures. She says the withdrawal of signatures did affect the total number acquired by the petitioners, which was less than the requisite number 125.
A group of MPs led by Ajuri County MP Dennis Hamson Obua had handed their petition to the office of the speaker after they collected 126 signatures.
The constitutional requirement is 125 to recall the house.
However, after five of the MP announced the withdrawal of their signatures, the figure stood at 121.
The MPs were pushing for a recall to enable debate on the growing rift between the executive and the legislatives arms of government. The rift arose from the handling of issues following the death of former Butaleja district woman MP Cerinah Nebanda.
