The Grind – Kamara hosts Hon. Proscovia Salaamu Musumba

0:00 / 0:00
Is Uganda Deep In A Political Crisis ?

Hon. Proscovia Salaamu Musumba is the Speaker of the National Convention of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), Uganda’s newest political party.

For more than three decades, she has remained steadfast in her advocacy for good governance, democratic principles, and justice.
A former Member of Parliament, Hon. Salaamu was among the founding members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), where she served as the National Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region. Through this role, she championed democratic governance, the rule of law, social justice, and economic empowerment.

Since the arrest of PFF President Erias Lukwago, who joined the party’s Chairperson of the Elders Council, Dr. Kizza Besigye, and his political aide, Hajj Obed Lutale Kamulegeya, Hon. Salaamu has remained vocal in demanding justice for the detained leaders. Dr. Besigye and Hajj Lutale face treason charges, while Lukwago is being tried for misprision of treason. Hon. Salaamu is also among those accused of allegedly having prior knowledge of the offences and failing to report them to the authorities.

The 64-year-old speaks to The Grind with Patrick Kamara about the health of the incarcerated political leaders, her unwavering pursuit of democratic governance, and whether her continued activism has made her fear for her own safety.
