It’s not every day that a renowned legal scholar switches from an opposition political platform to the ruling party and, the very next day, praises legislation that many on his former side say puts the country’s image into serious disrepute.

But here is an accomplished law lecturer and Member of Parliament for Mawokota South, Hon. Yusuf Nsibambi, who has just crossed over to the NRM and is now in full support of a proposed Sovereignty Bill. His former party, the FDC, and the opposition in general have criticized the bill as highly controversial, warning that it could negatively affect Uganda’s economic development and human rights agenda.

But that’s not all. Hon. Nsibambi, who prior to joining the NRM served as Deputy President of the FDC (Central Region) and Chief Whip in Parliament, says he is fed up with what he calls confrontational politics and has no regrets about “seeing the light in the NRM.”

In this episode of The Grind with Patrick Kamara, Nsibambi also expresses disappointment with his constituents for failing to re-elect him. He says he does not regret withdrawing the services and opportunities he had previously extended. He further speaks about his newly found admiration for President Yoweri Museveni, the weaknesses within Uganda’s opposition parties, and his next chapter as he awaits a potential position of influence in the next NRM cabinet, which he says he would be grateful to serve in.
