Status of doing business in Uganda and a case for Uganda Airlines.

AMOS WEKESA ON THE GRIND WITH PATRICK KAMARA

For nearly three weeks, discussions in corporate and political circles have centered on the fate of Uganda’s national carrier, Uganda Airlines.

This follows ongoing concerns raised by aviation experts, political commentators, and economic leaders about the factors contributing to the airline’s financial and management woes — and what could either worsen the situation or help revamp the company and steer it out of its current administrative challenges.

One of the well-known proponents of the revival of the national carrier is Amos Wekesa, CEO of Great Lakes Safaris.

For many years, this well-travelled entrepreneur has strongly advocated for the return of Uganda Airlines. He remains optimistic that the airline is key to strengthening Uganda’s global positioning and image, growing tourism numbers, boosting trade, and attracting more investors.

However, like many others, he is concerned about the airline’s current management challenges. He cautions that if urgent action is not taken to address these issues, the situation could negatively impact the business community and the broader Ugandan economy.

In this episode of The Grind with Patrick Kamara, Amos Wekesa discusses the growing risks that could push the carrier into deeper challenges. He urges relevant institutions to take all necessary measures to resolve the crisis. He also shares insights on the state of Uganda’s tourism sector and the broader business environment, both locally and across the region.
