Kampala is yet again in the spotlight, with ongoing road works and infrastructure upgrades making parts of the city look like a construction site. However, what has raised even greater concern is the recent revelation that a prominent business tycoon is seeking access to the green belt at Constitutional Square, popularly known as City Square, to develop the area.
Other issues that have left many residents concerned include the continued lawlessness on the city streets, characterised by robberies and widespread failure to comply with traffic regulations.
In this episode of The Grind with Patrick Kamara, Kampala Capital City Authority’s Director of Physical Planning, Vincent Biribonwa Byendaimira, speaks about the various plans the authority is putting in place to restore Kampala to its former glory.
He assures the public of the authority’s commitment to addressing the city’s challenges, including waste disposal and management, public transport, preservation of heritage sites, and the upgrading of road and drainage systems, among others.
Byendaimira stresses that transforming Kampala will require more than the vision of city leaders; it will also require the collective responsibility of all residents to make the city smarter, cleaner, and more liveable. He concludes by calling on the public to collaborate with city authorities in making Kampala a better place for everyone.
