The police chief Gen Kale Kayihura has hit back at Amnesty International over a report that pins the force on rights abuse.
The report released yesterday puts the Uganda Police Force in the top spot in terms of human rights violation.
However, in a statement issued this afternoon Gen. Kayihura says the report is one-sided because they did not have the benefit of accessing and reading it before it was published.
Kayihura says the report by Amnesty International is far from being an objective analysis of the events and situations mentioned and can only be described as partisan, clearly intended to depict the Police in very negative light for sinister reasons.
He maintains that the mandate of the Police of keeping law and order, as well as the obligations of organizers of public events under the Public Order Management Act and other laws are hardly mentioned and taken into account in the report.
