The police Directorate of criminal intelligence has this afternoon raided a criminal gang that has been running a fake Forex bureau in Ndeeba, a Kampala suburb and arrested 7 suspects.

The suspects who upon arrest were found with a sum of 320,000 fake US dollar notes, were surveilled for a couple of months following several complaints.

Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango explains that the suspects have been offering a lower exchange rate to their victims to whom they would then sell fake US dollars.

He says the dollar note exhibits which have been recovered from their make shift business station at Linca Hotel in Ndeeba will be submitted for further forensic analysis at Bank of Uganda.

The suspects are currently detained at CPS Kampala as their case files are processed and police have preferred charges of dealing in forged currency notes, counterfeiting and uttering counterfeit notes.
