The inspector general of police Gen Kale Kayihura is asking for concerted effort from all Ugandans to protect the country’s girl child.

The call comes a day after the force released the mini crime report for the first half of 2015 indicating a5.6% decrease in the number of sex related offences.

According to Kayihura, cases of rape, defilement, incest and other related sex offences have remained reasonably high though police is trying to fight it at enforcement level.

He adds that all stakeholders must collaborate with police to eliminate these crimes right from the homes where they are committed.

Meanwhile, the police force has revealed plans to collaborate with their counterparts in the DR Congo and Tanzania to dismantle a racket of car robbers that is operating across borders.

According to the bi-annual 2015 Crime Report, over 630vehicles were stolen in Uganda and sold in neighboring Tanzania and DR Congo.

According to the Police Chief Gen Kale Kayihura, some of the key suspects have been identified making it easy for inter-country operations to be launched.
