Political analysts challenge new EC appointment
Political analysts have challenged government to address political question rather than technical question when working towards achieving free and fair elections.
While presenting a paper on the aftermath of the presidential elections 2016 at the Centre for basic research headquarters today, Prof Onyango Oloka said that the question has never been on the technical capability of the commission, but rather enabling legal regime.
He explained instead of looking at new commission as the road towards a free election, the starting point would have been embarking on electoral reform that could have guided even the appointing procedure.
He explained that with current status quo, no positive changes are expected in 2021.
The president last week appointed Justice Simon Byabakama to head the commission only pending parliamentary approval
