President Yoweri Museveni has assured the country that the perpetrators of the attacks in Western Uganda will be dealt with accordingly.
A group of unknown assailants attacked the three of Bundibugyo, Ntoroko and Kasese with machetes and guns killing civilians and police officers.
While speaking to NRM MPs during a caucus meeting in Entebbe this afternoon, Museveni said security agencies are still combing the areas where the attacks took place and are also tracing the whereabouts of those who participated in the attacks.
The NRM Caucus deputy chief whip, David Bahati says government will continue to monitor the area while security will be beefed up to avert any further attacks.
The army has meanwhile taken over security of the three districts.
Thomas Kasimo, the Regional Police Commander for Western has told KFM that this was resolved during a security meeting held this afternoon.
The meeting was attended by high ranking security personnel including the police chief, army chief of defence forces, defence minister as well as the Special Forces Commander Muhoozi Kainerugaba, among others.
The leaders have also urged residents who had fled to return home as security is now assured.
The army also says efforts are underway to recover over 20 guns stolen by attackers in sporadic attacks in Bundibugyo, Kasese and Ntoroko.
At least 22 firearms have been reported missing following the Saturday attacks on two police stations and a military barracks.
According to army spokesperson, Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda, some firearms have been recovered however the army, together with other security agencies, is closing in on the whereabouts of the attackers.
