By Ssebuliba Samuel:

Kenya’s opposition leader Raila Odinga has threatened not to take part in the presidential election re-run slated for 17 October without legal and constitutional guarantees.

Yesterday the Independent Election and Boundaries Commission Chairman (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati announced 17 october as the election day despite opposition outcry for his resignation.

According to daily Nation, Odinga says the new election must be held in an environment where everything that went wrong can be corrected.

He adds that he is full aware of what transpired in the last elections and is not ready to go back in hands of the same commission that cheated him.

However, the Jubilee leadership has hit back at the opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) for threatening to boycott the 17 October presidential election re-run.

Through the Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, Jubilee says it is not a must for NASA to participate in the election, thus their boycott does not invalidate the process.

He has described Odinga threats as tactics of a losing candidate, adding that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is an independent body so NASA must refrain from interfering with its activities.
