Ugandan rally driver, Ponsiano Lwakataka, 51, will spend next year (2023) in jail for destroying an old man’s house in Kiwanga Mukono district. Mukono Court grade one magistrate, Patience Koburunga has sentenced him to serve 16 months at Kauga prison over malicious damage to property.

This is after Chief State Attorney, Jonathan Muwaganya successfully led evidence against Lwakataka who with 6 other people destroyed the house of Goerge William Kawooya, 74, a resident of Goma sub-county in Kiwanga, Mukono.

Lwakataka had already spent 2 months on remand after his bail was cancelled in October over abscondment.

Evidence shows that on October 22, 2018, Lwakataka with others used harmers and axes to demolish Kawooya’s house over a contentious piece of land.

KFM understands that Lwakataka’s co-accused are still on the run and court extended their warrant of arrest.

The same court has also convicted Lwakataka of damaging a barbed wire fence of Namanya Josyline and sentenced him to 4 months.

The Court however decreed that the 2 sentences will run concurrently after Lwakata’s sought reconciliation with his accuser, escaping the deterrent sentence of 5 years.

However, Lwakataka has vowed to file an appeal before the High court.
