The executive director of the Dairy Development Authority Dr. Micheal Kansiime has challenged the new board to work towards reducing post-harvest losses.

This authority last week got its 5thboard inaugurated and is to be chaired by Sandra Mugenyi Mwebaze.

The Authority’s executive director Dr Kansiime expresses concern over the high post-harvest losses in the country which he says stand at 12.5%.

He attributes this to majorly lack of cold-chain infrastructure with some farmers unable to milk in the afternoon due to inconveniences with milk offtake while others have to travel long distances to reach cold chain facilities.

Dr. Kansiime also underscored the need to increase production of milk to meet the demand with new markets of 700 Metric tons of powdered milk secured in Zambia and Algeria by President Museveni.
