Hearing of the election petition challenging President Yoweri Museveni’s re-election resumes this morning at the Supreme Court with submissions from the respondents.

This is after the Petitioner Amama Mbabazi’s lawyers wound up their case yesterday, asking court to annul Museveni’s victory.

The respondents who include president Museveni, Electoral Commission and Attorney General have three days within which to make their submissions.

Meanwhile in sworn affidavits, the Chief of Defence Forces General Katumba Wamala has defended Museveni saying Ugandans are comfortable with soldiers around them.

The Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda says distribution of hoes was approved in 2012, while Senior Police Officer Felix Kawesi has justified the preventive arrest of the petitioner. All the above issues were raised by the petitioner.

According to the time table released by the Court Registrar Tom Chemtai, hearing is expected to be concluded on Friday and ruling delivered by March 31st.

The former premier and 2016 presidential contender ran to court challenging the outcome of the February 18th polls on grounds that electoral laws were flouted.
