A Rwandan journalist has been killed in Kampala.

The editor of Rwanda’s Inyenyeri news, Charles Ingabire who had sought refugee in Uganda for political reasons, has been shot dead at a Kampala pub.

Ingabire who was a vocal critic of President Paul Kagame was shot dead past midnight on Wednesday at Makies 2 Bar in Bukesa-Kikoni Makerere in Kampala.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi confirmed the murder of the journalist.

Two people have so far been arrested to help the police investigate the killing.

Senkumbi says the body had two bullet wounds and they have also recovered five cartridges of an SMG rifle at the scene and we are still hunting for the prime suspect.

The investigators say that the suspects may not be directly linked to the murder but their information will be very vital to their investigations since the deceased often frequent the bar with his colleagues.

According to investigators, the two suspects in the police custody told them that Ingabire and a male friend remained drinking in the bar gardens past midnight but after they had just paid their bills, the waitress heard gunshots.

The relatives of the deceased are still waiting at Mulago Hospital to receive the body but security agencies are still holding the body for more investigations.
