Saudi Arabia is ranked highest in mistreatment of Ugandan job seekers followed by Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, according to a research by Platform for Labour Action.
The June 2016 report handed over to parliament’s committee on gender indicates that majority of Ugandans in the Middle East are victims of International Trafficking.
According to the findings of the study conducted between 2010 and 2016, 73% of the victims are employed as Domestic Workers, 16% commercial sex workers, while others are employed as casual laborers on farms.
Ms Grace Mukwaya, the Executive director, platform for Labour Action says most victims are falling prey to such dubious schemes due to high unemployment levels back home in Uganda.
Hon. Margaret Komuhangi, the Chairperson of Parliament’s Committee on Gender says that the report will provide insightful considerations for legislation on externalization of labour.
Saudi Arabian authorities in Uganda are yet to respond to the horrifying findings.
