By Ruth Anderah:

Seven police officers have been charged before the General Court Martial at Makindye with the Kidnap of a Rwandese national;  Joel Mutabazi.

The seven police officers  include; SPC Joel Aguma,  SSP Nixon Agasirwe Karuhanga, D/ASP James Magada, D/AIP Benon Atwebembeirwe, D/Sgt Abel Tumukunde , SPC Faisal Katende and D/CPL Amon Kwarisima.

These are jointly charged with 2 Rwandese nationals; Rene Rutangugira and Bahati Mugenga Pacifique.

Prosecution  led by Maj. Rapheal Mugisha states that on the 25th/October 2013 at Kamengo in Mpigi district, while the accused where in unlawful possession of firearms and grenades which are a preserve of only the UPDF, they  conveyed Mutabazi to Rwanda without his consent.

The accused are appearing before a 7 member court chaired by Lt.Gen Andrew Gutti but their lawyer Caleb Alaka is objecting to the charges and the jurisdiction of the General Court Martial.

Alaka is contending that his clients cannot take plea on a defective charge sheet.

Gen Gutti has now remanded the 3 senior police officers Aguma, Agasirwe and Magada to Makindye Millitary cells  while as the rest of the 6 accused have been remanded to Luzira prison

All the accused will re-appear before court on 20th Novemeber 2017.
